The bedbug invasion continues, with the BBC reporting on an infestation at a popular holiday camp. The family involved were so disturbed and disgusted that they went home, and they’re still worried they may have brought some of the bugs home with them. It’s enough to make you itch.
Rentokil experienced a 65% year-on-year increase in UK cases over the second quarter of 2023, and now, thanks to the recent outbreak in Paris, the common bedbug - cimex lectularius – is sitting at the heart of a growing media storm.
While it’s good to see sniffer dogs being trained to find the insects, it takes time to train a dog and we’d need thousands of them to cover the UK. Plus the dogs only find the bugs, they don’t actually kill them. Pest control companies need a better way to handle the invasion, and we’re stepping in to help.
Pest management company books UVC bedbug killer trials
We’re delighted to be visiting a leading Pest Management Company this week, arranging a trial of three of our 600 Watt UVC Portable Units. The tech will be tested at three top luxury hotels in London over the next month, all of which are obviously determined to prevent any bedbugs getting into their premises. When just one case of bedbugs is enough to ruin a hotel’s high class reputation, potentially bringing a respected brand to its knees, it’s vital to act fast. Nobody wants to pay good money to stay in a luxury hotel where they’ll be bitten.
Why UVC is so effective at killing bedbugs and their eggs
The Far UV light used in our disinfection units ranges from 200-230 nanometres. This particular wavelength range has been proven time and time again to perform outstandingly in eradicating the spread of viruses, pathogens and bacteria.
UVC in all sorts of wavelengths is already being used worldwide to kill viruses, pathogens, bacteria, moulds and more, and there’s a host of products available with remote controls, auto shutoff and timed activation tech to disinfect places perfectly safely.
Independent research in the USA, where they’ve long suffered from bedbugs, reveals the effectiveness of UVC light in killing the creatures at every life stage. It’s particularly good at killing bedbug eggs, good news when the insects have been getting ever-more resistant to the chemicals traditionally used to kill them.
The very fact that you don’t want to be using dangerous chemicals in a consumer context makes our units even more attractive in fighting the bedbug invasion.
Our units kill bedbugs fast, safely and efficiently
We have a choice of permanent and mobile units. Our direct fixed static UVC LED units automatically disinfect the air and surfaces any time the space is unoccupied, significantly reducing the spread of pathogens. They’re fitted with a central microwave sensor to make sure nobody can be exposed to UVC while the unit is working. Would they suit your luxury hotel or holiday park?
Our mobile UVC LED germicidal lights come with quick turnaround with no downtime. Being solid state LED they don’t contain any mercury vapour. Perfect for fast, chemical-free disinfection and easy to use, they’re the ideal tool for cleaning staff. You can easily move them from room to room and building to building, for either continuous disinfection or an instant emergency response. This is intense disinfection, and it comes in either 200w or 600W. Would this style of unit suit your purposes best?
Defuse the bedbug threat before it becomes a problem
When your competitors have been infested and you haven’t, you win. With bedbugs, the faster you act the better. You don’t want a full-blown infestation if you can avoid it – and that’s exactly where our UVC tech steps in. Let’s get cracking before the bedbugs bite. Get in touch to find out which of our units will be best for your circumstances, or book a trial to see the power of UVC disinfection for yourself.
