UK covid is rising – Your school needs UVC covid killer tech
On 24th August reports revealed hospitals in England were about to stop routine covid testing. On 12th September we saw UK covid infections at their lowest since October 2021. Now the Office for National Statistics says covid infection rates have increased in the UK for the first time since the middle of July.
Here we go again... or do we? Let’s take a look.
Secondary school children lead the way in the latest covid increase
1 in 70 school kids tested positive for covid in the week leading up to 14th September. Covid cases have risen in England and Wales, but they fell in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Office for National Statistics is closely monitoring the data.
On the down-side, infections rose 5% in the survey. On the up-side, the total number of people testing positive remains close to the lowest point for the whole year. The research estimates around 927,000 of us have probably tested positive in the latest week we have data for, up from an estimated 881,200 the week before.
London, the West Midlands, Yorkshire, the Humber and north-east England all saw covid rates rise, while cases across the South East continued to fall. English secondary schools saw the biggest rises, along with people aged 25 to 34. The data didn’t show a trend of any kind for other age groups.
This is the first increase in UK infections since mid-July 2022
It’s good to know infection rates remain lower than the spikes we saw from Omicron and its BA.4 and .5 variants. But at the same time there’s been a rise in people being hospitalised with covid in England, with 4,015 of us admitted in the week ending 19th September, a rise of 17% on the week before. The autumn booster campaign is about to kick off, giving extra protection to millions of the most vulnerable.
UK estimated covid rates by country
- 1 in 70 people have covid in England at the moment, up from 1 in 75 the week before
- 1 in 75 have it in Wales, up from 1 in 110
- 1 in 80 have it in Northern Ireland, down from 1 in 55
- 1 in 55 have it in Scotland, down from 1 in 45
The result is a ‘mixed picture’ across the UK. Experts say it’s too early to figure out what’ll happen next, but they’re monitoring things closely, especially in schools.
Protect pupils and everyone else at school from covid
You can protect your pupils and everyone else at school by killing covid in minutes, safely and efficiently. You’ll have fewer absences in teaching and support staff, fewer pupil absences, and a much lower risk of spreading the virus far and wide, out into the wider community and beyond.
All it takes is a very specific wavelength of UVC light, emitted by an array of LED bulbs that cost very little to run. Our mobile units and fixed sterilisers are easy to fit, and there’s more or less no maintenance. So you can simply switch on... and relax.
