“If you have 300 people in the cinema, the average chance is you’ll have three to four people infected in that cinema.” Stephen Griffin, Virologist, Leeds University.
The quote above is about covid. But, depending on the pathogen, it could apply to all sorts of infectious illnesses and diseases including everyday influenza, the common cold, and the winter sickness we get from norovirus. In fact everywhere we gather indoors comes with an infection risk, including cinema and theatre auditoriums.
The risk of diseases spreading in cinemas and theatres
It’s easy to catch something in a venue simply because of close-up risks like coughs, sneezes, talking, shouting, cheering, singing and laughing in a confined, poorly-ventilated space. The tiny virus-carrying aerosols that quickly accumulate indoors when there isn’t enough ventilation can travel a long way during a performance that lasts anything from an hour and a half for a movie, potentially three hours or more for a West End show. The latest Bond movie, for example, ran for two hours and forty three minutes.
Theatres and cinemas aren’t the only venues where crowds gather and diseases can spread. Think about gigs and concerts, anything from chart-topping super-groups playing at huge venues to smaller-scale gigs featuring local bands in town halls, village halls and pubs. And how about indoor sporting events, where the roar of the crowd can spread pathogens far and wide?
The best solution of all is to fit the right level and quality of ventilation, along with a reliable way to kill pathogens so they can’t cause illnesses and diseases. And that’s where we come in.
Easy-fit, low cost evaporative cooling for cinemas and theatres
Under our Cool-Tech Ltd banner we provide cutting edge evaporative cooling technology and more. Evaporative Cooling works by drawing a constant flow of fresh air over water-saturated pads to bring cool, fresh air into the building while removing warm stale air. There are no chemicals involved. The carbon footprint is tiny, as is your power bill, because the tech uses 90% less energy than ordinary air conditioning.
Powerful, safe, low cost UV disinfection units for theatres and cinemas
Our sister business focuses on brilliant UVC Sanitising Solutions which quickly break down the DNA and RNA inside bacteria, viruses, spores and more to make them harmless. UV radiation is already in wide use for treating water and air without any chemicals, very popular in food production and manufacture as well as healthcare settings.
UVC light is highly effective against all sorts of horrible pathogens including cholera, hepatitis, polio, typhoid, giardia, cryptosporidium, covid, flu, the common cold, and numerous other bacteria, viruses and parasites. It also happens to remove chemicals like chlorine, chloramines, ozone and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) contaminants. And it dramatically reduces cleaning times, also saving money on human cleaning staff. Constant disinfection is entirely possible, giving you a handy competitive edge.
Keeping customers and staff safe
Both of these fire-and-forget solutions are easy to look after, simple to use, low cost and highly effective.
In a world where plenty of us will always be wary in a crowd thanks to the lessons learned during the pandemic, evaporative cooling tech plus UVC disinfection provides beautifully clean, safe spaces for people to meet, laugh, and enjoy themselves knowing they won’t be at risk of becoming ill.
