The more we find out about Covid 19, the more we realise there isn't going to be a quick fix. There are vaccines in the pipeline, and that's fabulous news, but even successful vaccines won't mean we're going to go back to 'normal' any time soon.
Even with a vaccine that everyone accepts and takes, this virus behaves like the flu. Which means it's likely to circulate the human population for the foreseeable future with spikes and surges all year round, not just in winter, limited by a combination of vaccines, sensible behaviour, and ongoing disinfection.
In a landscape like this, our brilliant solid state UVC disinfection technology is one seriously useful piece of kit. It's designed to make your place as safe as it can be, quickly and efficiently. And it won't just be useful for a few weeks or months. It looks like our machines will be at the forefront of Covid disinfection and protection measures for a long time to come.
Bearing all that in mind, we've created a video to explain the technology. (See below) Here's a quick run-down of what it contains.
UV Covid disinfection – It's all about the wavelength of the light
Did you know that our machines generate UVC at the 275 nm wavelength? According to the latest science, this is very close indeed to the optimum wavelength for killing viruses and pathogens, and that makes our machines particularly effective.
UVC light lowers the infection rate from everyday viruses like the common cold or flu, right up to the latest coronaviruses including Covid. With UV it's all about time, intensity, and distance. Our solid state tech means there's plenty of intensity in the room and that means it takes less time to sanitise than competing machines. The clean, strong, powerful UVC light emitted damages the virus' DNA so badly it can't reproduce, multiply or breed, so it quickly dies off.
You can, of course, use harsh chemicals and fogging to disinfect against Covid but they're both expensive as well as a lot less efficient. There's a long 'dwell time', a long wait while the chemicals work on the areas you're trying to clean, then there's another wait thanks to the residue time, when you can't go into the area disinfected because it's dangerous.
UVC is different. It starts to kill immediately. Wherever the light lands, it sanitises that area. Imagine trying to clean high-touch areas and items like keyboards. It's pretty challenging using chemicals on a brush or a cloth, compared to simply shining clean, powerful light on the object or the area.
Keeping the Banham Barrel alive, and making dental surgeons happy!
Brian McAllister, owner of the popular live music venue the Banham Barrel, welcomes musicians from around the world. He's abiding by all the government's guidelines but he's also going above and beyond the call of duty, using one of our UV machines to sanitise the premises quickly and efficiently. This keeps it safe for music lovers and musicians to enjoy.
Dental surgeon Jo Hassan is also impressed. She loves the fact that our machines can clean a room sized 4m x 4m x 2m in just three minutes. This means she could get the frequency of patients almost back to normal, which is great news for the business and for patients, too. As Jo says, 'official recognition' of the technology is really important, so more businesses can justify using it.
Our silent guardian
You can be confident that our lights kill every virus, including terrifying viruses like Ebola, and will probably kill new virus strains that arise in future. UV light has been used in labs and for clinical disinfection for years, and obviously has a bright future – pardon the pun! No wonder we call it the 'silent guardian'.
