It’s great to see the covid disinfection robot scene booming right now. Here are just a few of the latest stories about covid UVC disinfection technology from around the world.
Yahoo finance reports on UVD Robots
According to Yahoo Finance, the Danish firm UVD Robots, a fellow leader in autonomous UV disinfection technology, has got into bed with OCC Commercial Consulting to deliver ‘complete hospital-grade disinfection solutions’ for supermarkets. The result will be a much safer shopping experience for employees and customers.
Just like ours, UVD’s autonomous robots use germicidal UVC light to make viruses and bacteria on surfaces and in the air harmless, killing more than 99.99% of micro-organisms including covid itself. UVD robots has signed the global partnership agreement with OCC to combat covid and other pathogens often found across grocery, food service and retail premises
EU donates 200 UVC covid disinfection robots
As we reported previously, the EU is donating 200 UVC covid disinfection devices to hospitals across Europe. The new cleaning devices donated by the EU cost an eye-watering 80,000 Euros each, a lot more than ours, and one is currently being trialled at Turku University Hospital in Finland, the country’s first UV disinfection robot.
Despite the hefty price tag, by all accounts the robots soon pay for themselves, understandable when a team of cleaners on constant duty 24/7 costs an absolute fortune. As you can imagine our UVC robots, which cost a lot less, pay for themselves even faster!
As the hospital’s hygiene unit’s Administrative Manager says,
“The patient rooms have a lot of surfaces that get touched a lot. Even the bed is quite challenging to clean. You can't get into all of the corners very easily, even with a cleaning cloth.” As another expert mentioned, UVC robots can also play an important role in fighting hospital-borne bacteria after the end of the covid crisis.
Ethiopian Airlines signs a covid disinfection robot deal
On 12th October Ethiopian Airlines Group and Aero HygenX outlined a joint plan to deploy a fleet wide autonomous UV-C light disinfecting robot called RAY, the first time an African nation has adopted the tech made by the Canadian technology company.
Germii Australia and Softbank Robotics Singapore sign a deal
In Australia the UVC robot tech made by GERMii UV-C for Whiz, the AI autonomous floor vacuum-cleaning robot from SoftBank Robotics, has been approved as safe, proven to prevent accidental over-exposure to UVC radiation. It means the company will be able to begin working towards deploying their robots across various important Singapore government and commercial customer sites. The tech is already available in Singapore and throughout the Asia Pacific.
As a Germii spokesman said, “We’re immensely pleased to finally be able to commence shipping GERMii air and floor systems to current Whiz robots in service around the region, and to customers about to deploy Whiz.”
Singapore polyclinic’s clever assistive healthcare robot
Visitors to Singapore’s Tampines Polyclinic are being greeted by a robot telling them to put their masks on, directing them around the building, and monitoring their temperatures.
It’s all down to the Healthcare Assistive Robot for Frontline Infection Control, AKA Hiro, created by a team at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The robot, currently on trial, also uses UV-C light to kill bacteria and viruses. As one of its inventors said,
"The robot is meant to help cut down on the possibility of infection in the polyclinics and also reduce the burden on healthcare staff doing laborious tasks like cleaning hard-to-reach areas and temperature screening, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic."
Hiro is part of the Polytechnic’s collaboration with the healthcare giant SingHealth. They plan to roll the technology out to more SingHealth polyclinics next year. In the meantime, work to perfect the robot continues.
